Are there any Chicago teachers in the Houston area? If not, are there any in the state of Texas at all? Thanks!

Actually there are a number of Chicago trained trumpeters in Houston. John Dewitt and Bob Walp of the Houston Symphony both studied with Vince Cichowicz at Northwestern, and I believe another NU alum will be joining the section for next season. Also, get in touch with Randy Adams. Randy is a great player and teacher who studied at NU for his Master's degree. He has done a lot of playing with the HSO over the years and now teaches at several Universities in the area.

Is Dick Schaffer still in the Houston area? He studied with Cichowicz. http://www.eddielewis.com/trumpet/hang/schaffer.htm

Dick Schaffer retired last year and he now resides in Syracuse N Y,
He was a very fine teacher, who took a great deal of intrest in his students,
not only their playing but the welfare in general.
He was a terrific influence in my life .
I studied with him thirty years ago when I was in college.
He really helped me correct a lot of bad habits and put me on the right track.

Will Strieder (Texas Tech) studied with Vincent at NU. Won the concerto competition there.

Keith Winking at Texas State had lessons with him while in school at Notre Dame, if memory serves me right. I studied with Keith for a sememster and alot of what he taught me could be viewed as this approach and immensly benifited my playing.

I studied with Randy Adams at SHSU. I still teach my students methods he learned at Northwestern. Great guy and accomplished trumpeter. He has a very quiet demeanor (which may not suit the lackadaisacal student who need prodding to practice) but he is very knowledgeable.

Seek and ye shall find.
