I have an RMC Committee with the SR# 121XXX. The engraving on the bell is length wise instead of across the bell. It has the RMC in the shield and then Martin Committee Made in USA. No other markings on the horn besides the SR#. The bore size is 470 at the second valve slide measured from the inside. It plays great and has a bright tone and is raw brass. I have owned and played four other Committees including one that was a large bore all pre 1950s. This RMC sounds totally different, bright hard hitting tone, almost sounds like an MF ST302 but not as free blowing or as loud when you put the pedal to the floor. Played easy it sounds like Miles horns from the late sixties. I can't find any info except the usual one paragraph about RMC. I have owned and played at least 25 horns and this one is different than all of them in the versatility it has to offer. Anybody know anything about these horns besides the usual quote from the Dallas website?

The serial number you posted does not make sense to me relative to Committees and/or RMC. The number should be in the 200,000 range. Can you post photos?

That is the number stamped on left side of the second valve casing. When I did my search for info I realized the number on the horn didn't match anything published. I am new to the site and as soon as I figure out how to post some pix I will.

yeah that all sounds pretty wrong to me too.

470? that's really weird. What is it at the end of the leadpipe?

If it's raw brass, then I bet it's a frankenhorn of some kind.

120XXX, I think (THINK!) should have three pointed valve guides. That is off the top of my head though!

Gotta see photos of this one:)

That serial number does not sound right as that would be in the early Handcraft range. RMC Committee's were not made for long and all that I have owned used the original tooling and engraving. RMC just simply engraved their stamp above the Martin script. You more than likely have a Frankenhorn as Martin/RMC/Wurlitzer/Leblanc didn't make a 470 bore for the Committee. All of the large bores measured at .468. Were you just rounding up or does it actually measure at .470?

Post some pics and we should be able to help you.

I think Bill Ortiz has a couple of .470 Committees.

Just take a picture of the horn, email it to someone here and let them post it. That info. you gave just doesn't sound right with what is generally known about Committee's.

I sent some pix out and I didn't round up. I was selling the horn at one time and just assumed it was an ML. I just measured it one day and was quite surprised. It has a 5 inch bell also but looks like a an older Committee with the trombone water keys and the valve buttons look like they are from the 30s', small, not like the committees from the 40s and 50s. All the solder marks look original also.

Maybe an old or non Martin valve block with a Martin bell and slides... who knows? Without photos... no way of telling.
