|I picked up this horn back in 2017. The prior owner had Michael Del Quadro remove the dents, replated the valves, and added a pinky ring. Other than that, the horn is an all original Holton 1928 Llewellyn Trumpet and in fantastic shape for its age. Please review the pictures for detail. It has a unique sound that I would describe a dark and bright at the same time and with lots of overtones. |
One thing that I do note about the trumpet is that if you insert a trumpet mouthpiece, it does not insert in near as far as it would for other trumpets. In asking the prior owner, he informed me that the Holtons are made without a gap and that it is the original receiver for the lead pipe. His recommendation was that this horn plays best with an original mouthpiece from that time period for that horn so he sent me a Holton Heim 2 mouthpiece to use with the horn. I have included this with the trumpet. However, this mouthpiece also does not insert as far in as I would expect into the receiver.
I guess just a personal/OCD preference thing for me and just don't think it would be right to replace the receiver to a more modern receiver and ruin the originality of the horn.
Instead, I would rather see this go to a vintage horn collector that has a better understanding and functional use for this horn.
I am open for trades +/- cash, especially vintage professional level trumpets and cornets.
