|Blackburn short wrap Bb/A piccolo trumpet.|
Serial number puts this in mid 90’s I believe. This horn was made by Cliff. It’s tough to know how many of these horns were ever made, but I think that it’s around 30 total. The short wrap piccolo is very dark and plays more open than any other piccolo that I’ve ever played. It is incredible with small chamber orchestra groups. Obviously, pieces like “the trumpet shall sound”, “Bach Oratorio” etc. sound incredible on this instrument. I have picked this horn up when I was just tired and needed a chop break and played regular Bb first parts on it during Christmas and the annual beating that takes place for me that month every year.
I never thought that I would sell this horn, but most of the work that I do is recording, and unfortunately, this horn is darker than I need… I absolutely love the sound that I have on this horn, but the producers want me brighter for the work that I do. So since I can’t afford to have two piccolos right now, I’m putting it up for sale.
I would say that this horn is at least a 9.5 out of 10 cosmetically and all condition. Playing wise it’s amazing! Anything that looks like a big scratch or dent is merely reflections from lighting when I took the pictures. It is used, but in excellent condition. It comes with raw brass spacers for the “A” side.
It comes with 2 pipes. A P4 “A” pipe, a P4 “Bb” pipe. I may have two more pipes, but I may have given them to another player here that plays on one that is identical to this one. I can update on that, but the price will be the same with or without those extra pipes. It’ll also come with a short shank piccolo two piece mouthpiece of your choosing from PATRICK Mouthpieces.
I wish that the pics did the horn more justice. The ONLY flaw that there is, is from a practice mute that I regularly used when playing piccolo at times. It scratched the inside of the bell where it touched the finish. It’s raw brass right there. It’s not very noticeable, but that is the only flaw that I can see on the horn. New this horn is just a shade under $5200 and you’ll wait for many months for it to be built and comes with only 1 leadpipe. With two it would be $5400.. So I’m asking $4500 obo with the two pipes and the mouthpiece of your choosing.
I’ll update this if I find the other two pipes that I wasn’t using as much.
