Hi,

Has anybody used a Taylor Chicago II Standard in a section and were there any problems?

Regards

Trevor

Yes I've played it, and it works well in a section. Just try to remember not to play too loud, you'll be playing the other guys off their chairs.
The heavy chicago custom is more a solo instrument, it doesn't blend at all and plays much too loud.

Thanks Hans,

Great advice...I've got a bit of a reputation as a blaster so I'm going to have to be very careful.

If you are a blaster, maybe you should also take a look at the Straub Alpha II.
You can't overblow this one, and blends great in a section. If pushed, you can go way over the section.

Straub Alpha II? I've never heard of this...is this some kind of Star Wars joke or is it some crazy horn? LoL. If you're a blaster then you should just try to calm down your sound...I used to be like that, too and then I concentrated more on quality of sound over volume.

The straub Alpha II is the horn that is the base of the new Doc S. horn, on the market in a short while.

Yes you'll get a heavy Taylor 3C with any Taylor-horn you order.
On the standard Chicago you can use any mouthpiece you like. On the Chicago Custom on the other hand you really need the heavy mouthpiece. Not only for the sound but also as a balancing weight.
If you don't like a 3C Andy Taylor can put on any cup you want.

Aaron,

Yes I've been working on calming things down. Makes everybody a whole lot happier!!

Hans,

I must admit I've never heard of Straub..is there a web site?

And Marchard,

Hans is right. Andy supplies the horn with a generic heavyweight mouthpiece (3C or 7C) I think but will cut a mp to whatever you want. I have a favourite GR 3HC* which he replicated the rim and cup on a Taylor blank. I also occasionally use the original GR mp on the Taylor and it works fine although looks a little silly in the thick lead pipe.

Regards

Trevor

Good looking horn. Interesting bracing, does it help the sound in some way.
