I seem to have read where Doc Severinsen mentioned he needed to include weight training in his practice schedule. That's all I know about it. Does anyone have some details about what exactly his weight routine is and what it helps him do?
A while ago I watched the HGTV special about Doc's family and home in Simi Valley, CA. In all the rooms that were shown, I didn't see any weight lifting equipment. I would think that since he practices at home he would do other exercises there as well. |

I've mentioned before in a different thread that I feel a difference in my playing when I'm working out on a regular basis. I seem to have better range and endurance which is probably due to better abdominal/trunk strength for support and better breath control from the cardio portions of my workout.
Then again, it could all be in my mind. If it is indeed true that when you are in better physical condition you play better, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to learn that Doc Severinsen incorporates weight training into his daily schedule. _________________ Patrick Gleason

Any kind of physical conditioning can help your playing; since last summer I've been doing yoga at least three times a week, and have noticed great advances in my playing. (Before that I had been doing weight training for about five years.)
Yoga is all about breath and breath control; one [yoga] instructor I know of has said the asana [pose] is only a "vessel for the breath". |

Hiya, Frank Lingo, "Noo Yawk," and welcome to a cyber spot that some of us really like.
Your comments re yoga: in a diff. decade, diff. lifestyle, I did get into yoga...Hmm, should get back.
The others' comments re exer.: I couldn't agree more. Most any aerobics help the Air Chops. Even wgt. training, oriented more to strength, does add some to aerobic stamina.
